About Robert Stewart, MD
Robert D. Stewart, MD, holds joint appointments with Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. He is a staff member in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery within the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He is Interim Chair of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, as well as Surgical Director of Congenital Heart Transplantation.
Dr. Stewart is board certified in general surgery, congenital heart surgery, and thoracic surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree in human biology at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California and he earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. Dr. Stewart also holds a master’s of public health from Harvard University School of Public Health in Boston. His post-graduate training includes a general surgery internship and residency at Deaconess Hospital in Boston; a cardiothoracic surgery research fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston; a cardiovascular-thoracic surgery residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago; and a congenital cardiovascular-thoracic surgery fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Stewart is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society. He has been a guest reviewer for Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Chest, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, and Congenital Heart Surgery.
Dr. Stewart has published a number of research articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as having contributed abstracts and presentations at a number of professional association meetings.
His specialty interests include complex neonatal congenital heart surgery, Norwood procedure, heart transplantation, adult congenital heart surgery, Tetralogy of Fallot, surgery for single ventricle hearts, mechanical assist devices for heart failure and arrhythmia surgery.
