About Dr. Mehran
Dr. Reza Mehran was born in Switzerland. He attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada where he received his M.D. degree in 1986, his Masters of Science degree in 1987 and then a degree in Experimental Surgery in 1989. He completed his General Surgical Residency at McGill University in 1991 and his Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgical Residency at University of Montreal in 1995.
Dr. Mehran joined the staff of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 2004 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2008. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Faculty Achievement Award in Patient Care.
Dr. Mehran has a strong commitment to education. He has presented nationally and internationally and has published more than 160 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has authored or co-authored 62 book chapters. Dr. Mehran has collaborated on many research protocols.
Despite his heavy clinical practice, Dr. Mehran finds pleasure in flying both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. He is a certified dive master and a specialist in hyperbaric medicine.
